This filter primarily lets the liquid flow through. Also, make sure that no solid particles get through. When the particles accumulate in the drain field, they accumulate clog. Be aware that some older wastewater treatment systems may not have this filter. But in the current era, this has become a great addition to homes.

If the filter fails to do its job it can affect the overall functionality. The first issue is the potential of clogging as solid objects can’t pass through. This leads to poor drainage systems and sudden home backup. If you have no filtering system the wastewater will directly fall into nature. Making an abnormality in the natural flow.

  • Start by removing your septic tank lid, you will find it above the ground. But if yours is under the ground first locate the tank.
  • Now remove the filter cartridge and place it on the manhole. Make sure where you are placing it because the wrong hole means the waste will go to drainage.
  • Spray to clean the sticky clog on the cartridge also if yours has an alarm. Try to follow the alarm and always make sure it works.
  • Go for an inspection of debris. IF you find any debris spray it and clean up. This is likely the cause of future clogs.
  • Install the clean cartridge and clean the surrounding area with water. Now close the lid.
  • Completely clean up if required try taking a shower and use soap to clean all the things. Because the septic tank is not a hygienic place.

How often do I need to clean it?

However, the process of cleaning a septic filter is simple DIY. Still, not an easy task to complete. But the fact of cleaning a septic tank needs consideration of a few factors.

Things like size, filter quality, pressure load, and water usage pattern. Bigger filters require more time to have a clog. it can even handle excessive grease but be aware that the rate of accumulation is also higher. Also if you house as more appliances for the filter it can cause faster accumulation.

Generally, you may need to clean your tank after 8 or 12 months. After your first clean try to maintain and record your date. This will give you a preview of how frequently it requires cleaning. So, try to follow proactive maintenance, this can save you a couple of bucks in the long run.

Conclusion

So, Are septic tank filters necessary? Well of course they are necessary. Yes, the septic system can work without it but it is better to install one. In terms of prolonged leach field and lesser maintenance are the main factors. This is why you urgently need to install a septic filter if yours doesn’t have one.
